Dr. Elfriede Swarts completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Stellenbosch in 2007. In 2008 to 2009 she started work at a Katutura and Windhoek central hospital in Namibia as an intern. She completed her community service in Sabie hospital and there started to have special interest in womens health.
After working in Tygerburg hospital for 2 years in the obstetrics and gynaecology department, she returned to complete her specialist degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Cape Town in 2017. Her interest in fetal medicine culminated in a Masters degree focusing on the outcome of fetal talipes (clubfoot) when diagnosed on ultrasound.
She has practised for 7 months in Mosselbay as a general Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Life Bayview Hospital. On the 1st of March 2018 she opened her own practice in Middelburg, Mpumalanga. Her special interests include pelvic floor surgery, fertility, and fetal medicine. When not working in her practise, she enjoys movies and travel.
